Of the calligraphy media, ink (morak-kab) has had a very special place to scribes and calligraphers so much so that a quarter of a beautiful calligraphy has been attributed to quality ink. Various writings and treatises on calligraphy, however, reveal that in addition to morak-kab, another calligraphy material, named hebr, has been used. The question is that if ther is difference between Morak-Kab and Hebr or not? The present study aims to examine the differences among these two materials. To do so, having studied the available instructions on making morak-kab and hebr and taking the basic ingredients of both into consideration, a kind of hebr and a kind of morak-kab were made. It was made clear that while hebr and morak-kab have similar ingredients(gall, vitriol, arabic gum) but they have differences. In conclusion, the apparent properties of the two materials are dissimilar resulting from different proportions of the constituents used in both. Data was based on library material, laboratory and field observations and was processed by analytic-descriptive methods.
