Abstract Today, pottery in Shahreza of Isfahan is a valuable arts with its up and downs which has stabilized its place among Iranian pottery centers. The investigation of contemporary pottery in the course of history shows that Iranian potters have used predecessors' experiences, as well as remained professions of pottery art such as Soheili, Bahari and Fakhar, and tried to promote quality of pottery in the region. Although the emergence of influential internal and external factors has changed in some cases the trend of pottery in recent years in Shahreza, it could save and stabilize its identity among Iranian contemporary pottery centers. The purpose of this paper is to recognize the technical elements of pottery in Shahreza which are expressed through local nobility of colors and images of the region's pottery. This study tries to answer the questions that what is the place of contemporary pottery of Shahreza among active pottery centers in Iran and what are the technical characteristics of contemporary pottery in Shahreza? According to studies carried out in the region, fish, bird and sparrow, flower pattern and arabesque patterns (Eslimi and Khataei) are typical patterns used in the pottery of this region and in some cases natural landscapes shine as underglaze and graved images on crude clay body and sometimes on white bodies (Chinese soil). Green-blue colored glaze as well as transparent cream colored glaze are among eye-catching glazes of Shahreza. The stabilized characteristics of this region and continuity of its unique image and glaze patterns have donated an identity application to Shahreza. Data was collected via written sources, travel accounts, contemporary crockeries of Shahreza and interview with pioneers of this field and analyzed by historical-descriptive and analytical method.
